THREE GENERATIONS
The Macxine Women
Mary Macxine
Grandma Mary

A native of South Carolina, Mary was raised by Oscar Bowers and Willie Lee (Hipp) Bowers, and her mother inspired her love of cooking. She enjoyed farming, flowers, and cooking, and could grow vegetables and flowers while preparing a five-course meal in an hour. She moved to Washington, D.C. to advance her career, working with salads, desserts, and as a cook. She married Warren T. Wills, had three children, and passed the Macxine name to Gwendolyn. Known affectionately as Grandma Mary, her home-cooked meals and fresh baked goods drew people from miles away. She shared her gift with her church, family, and friends, and passed away in 2017.
Gwendolyn Macxine
“Let your light shine in the kitchen”

A native of Washington, D.C., Gwen is a Registered Nurse who worked in the travel industry and retired in 2025. Her mother Mary taught her to cook, and she helped with weddings, dinner sales, family reunions, and church events. She has three children, three grandchildren, and passed the Macxine name to Jherrica. Gwen loves God and her family, enjoys laughter, and brings creativity, speaking, listening, and a gift of gab to Sweet Macxine. When Mary could no longer cook and bake, Gwen learned to bake the pound cakes Mary craved, and now brings her mother's homemade pound cake to customers.
Jherrica Macxine
“Baking is love made visible...”

A native Washingtonian and the baker keeping a sweet family legacy alive. Jherrica’s love for baking started in her grandmother Mary Macxine’s kitchen, where her mother, Gwendolyn, always encouraged her to watch, learn, and absorb the magic of homemade desserts. Today, she is stepping out of her comfort zone to share her grandmother’s legendary homemade cheesecakes and sweet treats with the world. Guided by her favorite philosophy—comfortability and growth cannot coexist—Jherrica blends a sharp professional drive with a deep passion for family traditions. When she isn’t whipping up a fresh batch of cheesecakes, you can find her traveling, swimming, enjoying theatre arts, and making memories with her family.
